Curriculum - Music

Music

At Seamer and Irton Community Primary School, it is our aim to give every pupil the opportunity to develop a love of music through designated Music lessons, and if they wish to take their interest further, then they will have the chance to develop an area of this subject individually by having peripatetic instrumental lessons or as part of an ensemble or choir. This will build on their musical experiences at home and will broaden their musical experiences as they go through the school.

It is paramount that pupils learn to articulate their own musical choices and that they develop a vocabulary that allows them to express and appreciate the choices of others. Pupils will learn to listen to unfamiliar music and share their thoughts, respectively. They should also learn that their own taste will broaden and change over time as they are introduced to music from diverse cultures, genres and eras.

The school’s chosen scheme of work, Charanga, has inbuilt links to other subjects and the filter system allows staff to easily find music to suit other subjects for example finding specific performers or composers to enhance Black History month etc.
